You
have made it this far and to prove how unique you are it’s time I shared a few
things with you. No matter how crushing
it might sound, the statistical, mathematical, scientific, logical, proven,
reality is that most people who join our dojo will never get to the legendary
black belt.
Is
it possible to get a black belt? Of course it is, but probable? Heck No!
Thousands of new students
pass through dojo doors around the world every minute. How many of those even
get to the second belt? How
many get to the third belt? Fourth? Fifth? Sixth? Black?
Do the math. (Answer:
“Not many.”)
It’s just simple
statistics. I’m not trying to discourage anyone. It’s not a plot. But let’s
keep it real here: Just like most businesses fail within two years of starting,
most Karate students don’t get to black belt. They just don’t have the dedication,
willingness or spark that you have.
You should be proud… Very Proud!
I bet you’re glad I didn’t
share that with you in the beginning….
And now the hard part
begins. You got a small taste of it Saturday. I wish I could help you more but this is up
to you.
I don't have the secret, except to encourage you to keep coming to your classes --to keep practicing when you’re not at class. I don't know what your "success" with this test is going to look like, really --and I don't know when you're going to feel successful, as in “Wow I’m going to ace this!”
I do know, however, for a fact, that success in passes your Black Belt test isn't a trick, a technique, a scam, something you can buy, a long sales letter, the 2 week trial, the occasional visit, or a 9 part Blue ray series that promises and/or guarantees that you'll learn what it takes to be successful. I'm almost 100% certain you're not going to find a shortcut to this particular "success," and if you think you do, at least in the times I thought I'd found one, you end up looking back an realizing you're were as deluded and arrogant as just about every other Sad Sack in the world. But then, that too ends up serving you, doesn't it (hopefully).
All I can really do for you is to encourage you to show up, to engage, to push yourself harder than ever before, to fail, to try again and persevere as close to the next 7 weeks as you can muster. Hopefully, if you're capable, you'll define some kind of success that doesn't make you sick, crazy, or destructive --or worse, injured.
Best
of Luck to all…

Bootcamp this week was hard and not fun! I'm sore this morning but I know it will get better. I know what I need to work on and I will do it.
ReplyDeleteBoot camp was just what I expected! Having to take the last 5 weeks off because of a pulled muscle and then getting sick with a sinus infection has really messed with my breathing. I know that in the next few weeks I really need to work my speed and get my lungs back to breathing deeply. I am also struggling with my motivation. I know that this is a test that I just have to get through but its hard with all the stress that I'm feeling in my life! I will keep working on my running and my motivation! I Believe!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBootcamp was very difficult for me this week but i'm sure if i keep practiceing and running it will get better.
ReplyDeleteFor me the first bootcamp was a huge success. I was able to see the payoff of all my hard work. I think some of the kids were worried about having to run the mile after doing all the sprints and content work, but they hopefully all learned that they can accomplish more than they think they can. Looking forward to the next several weeks and seeing everyone become stronger!
ReplyDeleteThis bootcamp was hard for me at the end, since we did the training before the run. A lot of people were worn out and tired when we were doing the run. But other than that everything was a succes. I can't wait to see what the next 5 bootcamps have to bring.
ReplyDeleteBootcamp was tough because we did the 50 sprints, the jack knives and especially the mile at the end. The piggy back was really fun. Next week it will be easier for me as I get back into the hang of boot camp.
ReplyDeleteYou would think that by the fourth time doing boot camp, I would have gained enough sense to know what to do the night before and morning of, but lo and behold, I was the example this week of what not to do! Once Mr. Matthew's father got some Gatorade for me, and I started to take small sips, I did feel much better. Therefore, I'm changing my thermos of chocolate milk to a bottle of Gatorade. The night before, I did not feel like eating very much (probably from nerves for the next day), so I only ate about half of my dinner. From now on, Fridays are going to be noodle days, and I shall eat every last bite. The morning of, We did not have what I usually ate before class (a single biscuit of Weetabix - a british cereal you can sometimes find in Raley's), so I ate a bowl of FiberOne chocolate squares. HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!! Not only was it very filling, but it isn't very good for you, despite the fact it's FiberOne. I'm going to do what Seh Ssung suggests and try Breakfast Essentials this week. Depending on the result, I shall decide my breakfast choices from there.
ReplyDeleteDuring the actual boot camp, I did not feel good (as you all probably have realized), but the piggy back riding, though hard on my legs after the squats, felt good whether I was carrying Ms. Jamie, or she was carrying me. For the rest of yesterday and especially today, my thighs and upper arms have been very sore. It hurts the most when going down stairs, but it also hurts just to walk. I think this is a sign I need to work on my squats and pushups.
Today is very much a resting day for me, although this week, I am planning on going to Buljan park on Tuesday and Thursday after school (since that's where I go to school) and running the mile, especially since I didn't do it at bootcamp. During my offtime, I shall go over all of my forms, self defense, etc., and I am checking my schedule for days when I can attend the Masters' Quest III classes.
That's it for now!
~Shoana
My first boot camp was nothing i was expecting. after all of the push ups, sit ups, squats, planks, and running im very proud of myself. i know this is going to take a huge amount of physical and mental training, but i know i can do it. I will be running a minimum of 3 times a week plus going to as many classes as i can.
ReplyDeleteMy mom prepared me for my first boot camp on Sunday. She told me to expect push ups and mile runs at the boot camp and it was a lot harder than I expected it to be still. Next time even though it will be longer and harder, I will know what to expect and be able to do it. Also, every other day I do as many push ups as I can in 1 minute. Each day I am using whatever time that I have to practice what I have not learned yet such as the Flag Form. The Black Belt prep class and boot camp really tired me out. I am going to train hard to finish my Black Belt prep classes successfully and hopefully get my Black Belt so I can learn new things. Thank you for the intense training! I may have even felt my muscles expand.

My first bootcamp was pretty tough. I didn't know what to expect, but I did my best. We did 50 sprints, push ups, sit ups, squats, and jack knives. At the very end we ran the mile, and I think we were all pretty tired. Although it was tough, it was fun to do the piggy back rides, and I really enjoyed how everyone tried to motivate each other. Whether is was the person next to you saying "keep it up", or a pat on the back. I woke up very sore this morning, but I felt very good leaving the bootcamp yesterday. I was very proud of myself for not giving up, and am ready to take on the challenges of the bootcamps to come:) -Lexi
ReplyDeleteMy first boot camp was hard & a lot of work. I was a little scared but I was fine the rest of the day. We did 50 sprints, & did a mile around the school. What I like about boot camp was the forms & self-defense. After it was over, I had fun & didn't give up. Hopefully I'm ready for next week.
ReplyDeleteI was completely unprepared for my first boot camp. From having a terrible breakfast to sleeping at the fairgrounds I definitely know what i should do to prepare for next week.
ReplyDeleteOver all I had a lot of fun. The forms were harder than the sprints! Great job everyone, and a big thanks to seh sung for motivating me to keep trying my hardest.
What? Boot camp already?
ReplyDeleteIt was fun (in its own way) getting back to boot camp. The workout was rather tough and I was very sore afterwards, but it still reminded me of where I was lacking and what I needed to practice at home. As we always say:
BRING IT ON SIR!
This week's boot camp was challenging. I had forgotten how difficult boot camp can be. I look forward to next Saturday and hope to see you all on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know what to expect heading to boot camp on Saturday and I was definitely caught by surprise at what awaited me. Thankfully for me i had a fulfilling breakfast of a banana which gave me a great start to a fun (and painful) boot camp. The sprints were challenging (as they should be) but thanks to everyone's motivation and positive attitude they were accomplished. After the sprints I got a little confused on my forms, but rest assured I have regained my common sense and have been reviewing my forms since I got home Saturday. I am so proud of how well everyone did at the first boot camp and I look forward to seeing each and every one of you at the next boot camp.
ReplyDeleteBootcamp was pretty much what I expected. We did a lot of physically draining things like running, back and forths, planks. We even had to carry people and run. We did some forms too. Even though it was challenging I like that kind of stuff so I enjoyed it. Looking forward to next week.
ReplyDeleteThe next few weeks will a test of our bodies and spirit. I can't wait till Tuesday's class. I'm not quite sure about what's ahead but we'll get through it together. Good luck everyone.
ReplyDeleteThis first boot camp I was unable to make. Although I did miss the workout you guys did I had to do a lot of running. I set many PR (personal record). I wish luck to all the candidates, and I hope we all train well and get stronger.
ReplyDeleteMy first bootcamp wasn't the easiest training, but I got through it even being sick. The sprinting was pretty hard, but the hardest for me was the jack knives. I will continue to work on those. I really liked the piggy back rides, they were a lot of fun. The run wasn't the hardest for me , but I liked the track we ran on this time better than the one we usually run on. Thanks to my dad, I was prepared with a great breakfast of watermelon and banana. My dad and I will continue our push ups that we do everyday!!!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Tyler sackett and this is my blog of my second boot camp. I had missed my karate class because I forgot to blog. I didn't blog because I didn't know it was time to blog and even if I remember to blog, I wouldn't have found the new website. But thats in the past. I need to focus on karate and give my BEST!
ReplyDeleteToday's boot camp was very hard. I improved on my mile time by 1 min. only 10 more seconds to go!I was running almost every day last week and I will continue doing this until I test and earn my black belt.I know I can do it!
ReplyDeleteToday's boot camp was MY first boot camp. It was as I usually expect for me doing boot camp for quite a while, but I still found it training me hard and making me stronger. I do enjoy doing boot camp because I know I am getting in better shape even though I am already in good shape.
ReplyDeleteBoot camp wasn't as difficult as it was last time. It was just lots of forms and work at the dojo. I had a good time doing forms with my friend Brian. Next time we wont have to do as much but well have to go to a tournament right after so I'm looking forward to that.

ReplyDeleteMistake Sir!
DeleteFinally! I was on time during bootcamp today. At first I thought I was late but I wasn't. Even though we started at 7:45 AM. I was ready to go & try my best. Hopefully I'm ready for next week cause it's the tournament. Bring It On Sir!
ReplyDeleteBoot camp was different this time. All we did was run 1 mile then headed back to the dojo. I felt good because I got a good time on my mile run. I felt the training at boot camp as an extra hard challenge. That's probably because that is what it is supposed to be. I'm also ready for the tournament on Saturday. Next week is a whole different week and I will try my best every time!
ReplyDelete~Jadon
I thought we would be spending this whole bootcamp at the park, but we didn't. The mile run was fine, but I am hoping to improve on my time a bit more over the next few weeks. I also like how we do the warm ups together before we run. Somehow I feel like it brings the group together and we seem to all perform better. After the run we went back to the dojo and work on some forms, kicksets and other things. We broke things down a bit and it was a really good review. Looking forward to next weeks run and helping out at the tournament.
ReplyDeleteSaturdays bootcamp was good. My mile time was just under 8 minutes and I will be working on getting my time down over the next couple of weeks. When we went back to the dojo we practiced Cobra Fight Set and I learned how to improve my techniques.
ReplyDeletethe second bootcamp was exhausting for me. Having to do the run and then all those forms over and over again, but in the end with the chokes and grappling i think most people had a good time. I can't wait to see what is in store.
ReplyDeleteThe second week of bootcamp was very tiring. Although it was tough, I was very proud of my run. Occasionally, my best mile time was 8:30, and I was able to accomplish a 7:50 mile. It was the first time I have ever gotten under 8:00 minutes. I was very proud of myself. After we ran, we went back to the dojo and did our forms many times, our kick sets, and Cobra fight set. It was very tiring, but on my way home I felt very accomplished:) Once again, I woke up very sore and bruised, but in the end it will all be worth it. I can't wait to see the outcome of all this hard work.
ReplyDeleteI was seriously hurting during and after boot-camp. I pulled a muscle in my hip on Tuesday lifting a drum, and rolled my ankle running pacers. I still tried my hardest and was surprised at my time. Sorry for the mis communication about the uniform, bag mix up thing. I still loves the super hard training and am looking foward to next week!
ReplyDelete--Bryan Krp
I had a good time during boot camp this weekend. I was quite satisfied with my mile-run and I had good review of the curriculum. I am glad I wasn't nearly as sore as I was the boot camp before.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed doing Krav knife sets and doing Dragon and Cobra fight sets. I could use some work on my forms and kick sets.
ReplyDeleteKeep working on that mile candidates, you can do it!!
This week, I'll still go over everything like before. I'm going to start attending Master's Quest classes on Fridays, and possibly either Monday or Wednesday. This week will just be Friday, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on my mile time, as it's starting to slip, and my other physical stuff three times a week, not including bootcamp.
I'm sorry I didn't get to blogging sooner. If I am not allowed onto the floor today, then I understand, but whether I am or not, I'm blogging way before this next week.
Another day another karate class. And I can't believe I am 13! I am finally a teenager. Well I can't dwell on it to much, I got karate to do. Dragon Star Dojo, look out. Here comes the older NEW ME.
ReplyDeleteMay 21, 2013
ReplyDeleteSaturday was okay. I think I need to run a little faster. Everyone is doing great. Keep up the good work. It's worth it.
This weeks boot camp was much better for me! I think my mind set was better so I felt stronger. The practice at the dojo helped me realize what I need to work on. Blogging completely slipped my mind this week and I will make sure that I post sooner next time.
ReplyDeleteThis weeks boot camp was a little easier. The practice really helped me.I will practice my weapon for the tournament.
ReplyDeleteBoot camp, a kick-athon, and a tournament...oh my! Karate today was rather tiring, but I was able to wake up and perform very well during the tournament. I am so happy that I got first place in sparring!
ReplyDeleteI had a good time during boot camp today. Did the 3 mile run, kick-a-thon-, & tournament. The mile was very hard but I got through it. The kick-a-thon & tournament weren't that hard. I liked the tournament though. Got 1st place in weapons. Can't wait for next week.
ReplyDeleteToday was so hard!!! running 3 miles was not what I was expecting to do when i got up this morning. Im proud I got through it even though I came in last place.I will keep running as much as I can and I WILL make my 8:00 min mile!
ReplyDeleteToday was the hardest day of my life! Running 3 miles nonstop. Even though it was tiring I was glad for the exercise. Even my jaw hurt. And the tournament a few hours after that. I bet at this rate, I will definitely make my 8 minute mile! This has been the best tournament yet!!!
ReplyDelete~Jadon Lai
This Boot Camp was............ different. We ran 3 miles! everybody did a great job. Keep it up and never quit.
ReplyDeleteI really liked yesterday! The close-to 5K run we did really pushed me, and doing the tournament right afterwards showed me how quickly I can recover if need be.
ReplyDeleteBecause I forgot parts of the BB forums on Tuesday and Thursday's classes, I've been working on those more than the others.
Because we have tomorrow off, I'm going to go to the track and run a mile and work on everything there. I don't know what time though, those of you who would want to join.
~Shoana
This bootcamp was nothing of what I was expecting. I woke up not nervous for once hoping to get an under 8 min mile, but as soon as we were told we had to run 15 laps, my nerves kicked in. I was happy to be able to run with Haley though, because we pushed each other to not quit. I think I did good on the running until about lap 7, because then I let the psychological part get the best of me and I started to panic. After we ran, we went back to the Dojo to prep for the tournament, and I was really tired. I had a really busy day Saturday, and once AGAIN woke up sore on Sunday. But I am still excited to see what we will do on the next boot camp! -Lexi
ReplyDeleteThis last bootcamp was not what I thought it would be. We were not timed, but had to run 15 laps, which equals 3 miles. I ended up running most of the laps with Conor and am proud of all the kids for not giving up and completing all the laps. They now know they can do more than they think they can. We will see what the next bootcamp brings!
ReplyDeleteThis bootcamp was very suprising! We ran 3 miles and I think I did very well because I kept up with my mom, who runs 3 miles all the time.
ReplyDeleteThis bootcamp was hard!Everyone was expecting only the one mile, but insted he pulled out 3 miles. Personally I had a little bit of a struggle with all the running, as i did not take my inhaler. But then it all worked out. I am just glad he did not time us or it would have been a complete mess. The best thing is that now I am going to train harder and beat that 3 mile run. BRING IT ON.
ReplyDeleteI loved Boot camp 3 miles Easy! Great job everyone in the tournament; I beat my dad woohoo. Bring the next boot camp on
ReplyDelete-Bryan-
Saturday's bootcamp was not what I expected. I thought we were going to run 1 mile but instead we ran 3 miles. That run was a challenge but it will help to prepare us for the real test in June. Everyone is doing great and if we keep it up, I know we will all make it though the test. Thanks Jamie, for keeping me going.
ReplyDeletethe boot camp this week was a surprise. I wasn't expecting to run 3 miles, but I did it!!! The kick a thon and tournament was fun. I will continue to practice my forms and weapons.
ReplyDeleteThis boot camp was all about endurance!! Running 3 miles and then heading back to the dojo for the kick a thon and tournament just shows us all that we can do anything we push ourselves to do!! I'm proud of the kids! I think this was the first time running 3 miles without stopping for some of them! Way to go guys!! Believe!!
ReplyDeleteI can not believe that school is almost over. Only 6 days left. Funny, this school year went by fast than last year. I am looking forward for the summer. Im making a movie. The only thing that dose not end is karate. I love to express the other things I can type but I got to go to karate.
ReplyDeleteSaturdays bootcamp was good, I realized I do better at long distance running rather than short distance.., I liked it.
ReplyDeleteAt the third bootcamp I was very shocked for the 3 mile run and I would like to thank Peter for supporting me and running with me
ReplyDeleteGO TDS!!!!
I was very shock at todays bootcamp. Got a 7:52 on the mile run & headed back to the dojo for training. Did the forms, fight sets, weapons. It was very exhausting to rotate each line. I'm looking forward to get a 6 minitue time on next weeks bootcamp. I know I can do it.
ReplyDeleteToday I ran a 8:07 mile. Only 7 more seconds to go. Then I went back to the dojo and practiced for the black belt test. We did forms, weapons and self defense. practicing was so helpful!
ReplyDeleteAfter Boot Camp, boy was I tired. We did self-defense so many times! But I'm glad that I got the extra practice. My mile run time was 8:02. I don't know what happened on the run but I now know that I need to practice running. That way I won't get cramps. I'm going to keep on practicing especially on the mile run!
ReplyDelete~Jadon Lai
This boot camp was a good representation of what the test would be like. There are a few things that I need to practice, but I need to have a lot of confidence at the test.
ReplyDeletei am really sorry I missed this last bootcamp.I wish I was felling good enough to go because I heard we did a practice Black Belt test. I will be working hard to make sure I am ready for the real test.
ReplyDeleteThis bootcamp was the toughest for me, as far as the run goes. I don't know if it was because I wasn't there early enough to do my normal warm up, or if it was just something in the air, but it was a litte difficult for me. I still made it under 8 minutes, but was hoping to improve my time. I like doing the practice Black Belt Test, and will make sure I continue to practice to make sure I am really prepared for the real test.
ReplyDeleteThe run during this bootcamp was not my best - I will improve - and I know I am capable of better things. Doing the practice black belt test was great and I will keep practicing to make sure I am ready for the real test. I am looking forward to running a better mile next boot camp. Bring it on, Sir!
ReplyDeleteSeh Ssung has told my mother that doing Masters Quest III classes might not actually help, so I will not be doing those. Today, during one of the Kidz classes, I was told to kick a cup off of a bag. You know the drill I'm talking about. Well, I kept kicking over the cup. No matter how hard I tried, i could not be fast and accurate at the same time. I'm very grateful Seh Ssung did not yell or look disappointed, but instead, made a laughing comment, but I still felt awful because I was a black belt doing this basic kick in front of white, yellow, and orange belts. Because of this, my mother and I are working on accuracy drills this week, along with my other stuff.
ReplyDeleteLately, I have not been working on my fitness as much as I should, so I'm stepping up my game in that respect.
The main thing I need to work on from this last week's boot-camp is not showing my exhaustion. I need to remind myself that I can breathe after this form or self-defense and to do my best as long as physically possible. Especially when rotating, I need to not walk but run (unless I have a weapon, in which case walk quickly).
That's pretty much all!
~Shoana
Boot camp was refreshing this week. It was nice to go over ever thing we have learned. Now I know what I need to work on. Definitely my Stick and Knife work Krav style I was a little confused on that part. See Ya Tuesday :)
ReplyDeleteBootcamp this week was pretty tiring, but very helpful. We started off with the mile, and I got 8:03. Then, we went back to the dojo and worked on everything we have learned: Forms, Weapons, and Self-Defense. This was helpful because it showed me what I needed to work on. I got lost a couple times, but I think I was just very tired. I know I need to work on pushing past that. Also, I will continue working on my push ups, and I need to work on my creative form. Can't wait to see whats going on next week:)
ReplyDelete-Lexi :)
The track seems to get harder everytime qe run it! I thought I was doing well but I stil came it at 7:54! The practice at the dojo was really helpful. I know I really need to work on my blackbelt forms! The blaxkbelt test will be here before we know it! Believe!!!
ReplyDeleteThe run this week was harder for me. My leg was hurting during the run. I think I need to stretch more before running. The practice test was really helpful. I will continue to practice so I will be ready for the test.
ReplyDeleteBootcamp this week was good, we went over EVERYTHING which was good. I still need practice with the knife defenses and stick defenses. I'm feeling really nervous and scared for the test!! I hope I pass...
ReplyDeleteBootcamp this week was good. I thought that we were just going to go over a few things, but instead we went over everything. Now I know what I need to work on. I know that if I keep on practicing, I will pass the test.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Finals have been taking up most of my time and maintaining a 4.0 GPA has proved extremely difficult. I have gotten better in my training from the first few classes. However, I will admit I still need work. Due to the lack of Power Kids classes in the past, I am struggling with remembering which Basic form is which. Now that Finals are drawing to an end, I will be able to focus all my attention towards my Black Belt test. I was hoping for a 7 minute mile on Sat and fell short. My goal this Saturday is to hit 7:10.
ReplyDeleteThe last two boot camps were pretty intense the first one was a 5k and while I've done lots of those it was still challenging and then the second one was basically a pretest of the black belt test and while i could work on my weapons a little i think ill do just fine
ReplyDeleteI am really glad about how I did this boot camp. Both my plank and push-ups look much better than they did before, and so were my forms. I need to keep this up so I can perform my best at the big test in two weeks.
ReplyDeleteI finally improved on my mile time. Got a 7:27, hope I can get a 6 minute. So tired today from the weapons, forms, & sparring. I also improved on the flag form. Just need to work on my push-ups & planks more. I'm doing ok on the squats.
ReplyDeleteToday at bootcamp I was there physically but mentally I was not. For some reason I was just off my game today. I know I made mistakes and I will work on correcting those mistakes. For next weeks boot camp I WILL make my mile and I will have perfect forms, weapons, and everything else.
ReplyDeleteYesterdays bootcamp wasn't to challenging for me but then again I didn't lap anyone on the mile but that was on purpose the only things I think I need work on are my flag form and the single numchuk but the thing I need to work on most is my plank but other than that I fell very confident that I'll pass the test
ReplyDeleteBootcamp yesterday was somewhat disappointing due to the fact that I did not make my mile time goal and that i made some mistakes on my flag form. I need to still work on my push-ups. My nerves made me mess up on my forms. However if I can calm my nerves I feel confident that i will pass the test.
ReplyDeleteThis bootcamp was ok, on the run I got an 8:10, and I was having some asthma trouble as I was running. When we got back to the Dojo, I felt sick and didn't know if I could continue. During the self defense portion, I did not look my best. I mentally wasn't there, and I know if that would have been the test, I would have failed. I think I did good on the plank, but I still need to work on my push ups. I feel that I will do good on the Karate portion of the Black Belt test, I am mostly nervous about the physical portion. Hopefully next bootcamp I will do much better.
ReplyDelete-Lexi
This bootcamp was good. I thought the run was a little hard, but I was still able to come in under 8 minutes. I am hoping to improve my time on the final run, next Sunday. After the run we went back to the dojo and practiced forms and self defense and I will be practicing everything over the next couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteThis bootcamp was not so challenging, but i need to imprrove my run time by at least 4 seconds. back at the Dojo we practiced was forms and self defense, which refreshed my memory. This was the second to last bootcamp, canidates are almost through it and black belts to. Bring it on sir!
ReplyDeleteI was a little happier with my run time this bootcamp, but am hoping to pull off a faster time on Sunday's run. Back at the dojo it was a great to go over all of our Black Belt forms and most of the self defenses. Will be working hard reveiwing everything with the my boys over the next couple of weeks and working on improving our run times. I wish everyone the best of luck on Sunday's run!
ReplyDeleteWell done to everyone who made it under eight! I can not believe I couldn't make it this time. I am working extra hard this week to make sure I make it, because there's no guarantee if you are still not there at this point, and I understand that. At boot camp, Seh Ssung told me the equivalent of that I need to be able to catch my breath a lot faster, and he's right, so I am also working on my forms non-stop, without water breaks and breathing breaks and stuff like that. I've been feeling kind of worried, though, because they say that a set stance's purpose is to teach you to breathe, but if I think that, I think I am not doing a set stance correctly, because I feel pressured for air when I do one and try to breathe deep.
ReplyDeleteI am proud of my plank this boot camp, but my core is not as strong as it will need to be for the test. At the moment, everything just sort of a scramble, trying to work on everything over and over, get it all pounded into my brain. My mother keeps saying I need to rest and relax so my metabolism can keep up, and I try to heed her because she is correct, but when I'm not doing something, I feel like I haven't done enough and that I need to do more.every free chance I get when I'm not actually working it, I'm going through all the forms or the self defenses or whatever in my head, visualizing what I'm doing and figuring out how to make it better each time, and focusing on each move, etc...
That's pretty much it
~Shoana
This boot camp was a good one. I came in under 8 on my mile. I will continue to work on my self-defense and forms! I will be ready for the test!!
ReplyDeleteI was happier with my run time this week! I finally broke the 7:54 time that I have been getting. I was one second away from my black belt test time! I'm hoping to come in under 7:46 next Sunday! I will continue to work on my new forms. I'm having trouble remembering the difference between Temple form and Tribal form. I will have it down by this week!!! I Believe!!!
ReplyDeleteMy mile run time has dropped down by a lot. I'd better start training harder because I'm on the edge of the 8 minute mark. Hopefully I can make my mile run time by the Black Belt Test. For the board breaking I'm doing pretty good. I can break all of the boards except for the slip step ax kick. I definitely need to work on that. I'm sure that I will pass this Black Belt Test!!!:)
ReplyDelete~Jadon Lai
This last boot camp was not my best. My run was was my slowest in a long time. I know that I need to pick up my pace and run faster.
ReplyDeleteSaturdays bootcamp was a rough one for me. My run wasn't that great I think because it was so hot, but we all got through it. I was really nervous when we got back to the dojo and we had to do all our forms and weapons in front of Seh Ssung, I was happy I made it through. Sparring was ok until I got hurt... It was a rough day...
ReplyDeleteThis last boot camp was great!! I did not fare so well in the Mile run because I tend to run better in the cold. When we got back to the dojo the blackbelts and candidates were split up and reviewing what we are supposed to know. I had a great time, but this boot camp was the most challenging for me because of the heat at the run.
ReplyDeleteWell, I did pretty good today. 7:19, best of my good time! Hope i'll be able to pass tomorrow. I can do it!!!
ReplyDeleteI feel really confident about about the physical portion of my test. Today, I ran a really fast mile and did 69 1/2 push-ups in one minute! I also feel really good about my performance with the curriculum. I still really want to get this test all over and done with, though.
ReplyDeleteToday's bootcamp was great. I ran my best mile. I beat my time by one second.I am really excited about this test. This is going to be great!
ReplyDeleteToday I finally ran the mile run that I wanted. I did this by running the mile twice a day and a little faster each time. I still need to work on the board breaking though. I'm sure that I will get the board breaking down with a lot of hard training each day before the Black Belt Test. I'm going to have a lot of fun training!

ReplyDeleteYesterday I hit my goal and got a 6:58!! Today I shed two more seconds off of that. For my first tab test my goal is to get a 6:45. This week I will go over my criteria over and over again until i can do every single move in my sleep.
ReplyDeleteThe last bootcamp was good, I ran under an 8 min mile. After, we went back to the Dojo and it was really great. I felt calmer then usual, but I think I did really good :) Today was the Physical portion of our test and I am VERY proud of my time, and how everyone else was! I got an 7:53 mile, and I was very proud of that. I would just like to say thank you to the other Black Belts and Candidates for helping me through this process:) I am very thankful that you guys helped me push through this. I am very proud of you Haley for pushing through today! I know how tough that was:) I think that was the most stressful part of the test for me, I can't wait for the forms part!! GOOD JOB EVERYONE!!!

I did it. I ran the mile under 8 minutes. The rest of bootcamp was okay. Everyone did great on the physical test, Sunday. Thank you Shoana for keeping me going. Great job everyone!!
ReplyDeleteBig Week here at the Dojo! Sunday the candidates all pasted their fitness test. A sense of pride wells up inside of me as I think about those that are about to test. They are so dedicated, and have worked so hard. I have a feeling excellence is about to strike at TDS!
ReplyDeleteARE YOU READY!
For the last boot camp I surprised myself and ran my personal best mile time, 7:26!!! Sunday I ran a 7:30!! It always surprises me when I realize that I can push my body harder than my mind believes it can be pushed!! I am so proud of all the candidates and black belts going for their tabs! We have all worked really hard, this week will hopefully bring us all one step closer to our goals!!! Believe!
ReplyDeleteYeah!! the last boot camp is over! I ran a 7:35 mile and felt good! I am now ready for part 2 and 3 of the black belt test! I will continue to practice so I am at my best for the test.
ReplyDeleteRunning a 7:25 on Saturday was great! It was my best time. I felt a little nervous on the actual test, though. I ran a 7:30, when I thought I had to beat 7:28 (My time for my black belt test). I'm feeling better now though, because Seh Ssung said all the candidates passed so far, so...
ReplyDeleteI'm a little nervous for Friday and Saturday, like you would be, but I'm also excited! Good luck to my fellow testers, and remember to push yourself to do your best at all costs!
